Pottery Classes - General Information and Terms & Conditions

Course outline

Week 1 - Learn the basics of wedging followed by a demonstration of throwing a cylinder on the wheel.  Then you will learn to throw, including centering, opening up and pulling up the walls.

Week 2 - Throwing on the pottery wheel with a focus on different shapes, ie. bowls, vases.

Week 3 - Learning to trim your pieces on the wheel and an option to add handles. Your pieces will be then bisque fired ready for glazing.

Week 4 - In the final week you will learn how to decorate and glaze your pots.
 
All clay, tools, glazes are part of the course. There is a maximum of 6 pieces fired included in the cost. If you wish to have extra pieces fired, there is a small charge of £5 per 500g of glazed work. You will also learn ‘good studio practice’ while at the studio, including cleaning up your potter’s wheel and tools.
 
Materials
 
All materials are provided including Stoneware Draycott clay, tools, potter’s wheel, in-house glazes.
 
What to bring
 
Apron/coveralls and a small hand towel. There will be aprons available to hire for £5 per session (this is to cover the cost of washing the aprons after each session) or purchase brand new apron for £15 each. Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting clay on. Long hair should be tied back and it is advisable that jewellery/watches are left at home.
 
Refreshments will be provided. Please let us know if you have any allergies. Please note that while the workshop is on the ground floor, the kitchen, breakout area and toilet are on the first floor.
 
Refund Policy
 
Full payment is required at the time of booking. You will have 28 days before the start of the course for a full refund minus a £15 admin charge.
Please note that 14 days prior to the start of the course, your booking is non-refundable and non-exchangeable, unless we can resell your place before the start date and a full refund minus £15 admin charge will be issued.
 
If you decide not to attend or not complete the course after the start date, no refund will be issued. Please note that we cannot accommodate students making up missed classes at other times.
 
Cancellation by us
 
We reserve the right to cancel or make changes to any courses, workshops or one-off sessions.
If we cancel your course or session for any reason we will do our best to organise an alternative date within a reasonable period of time. If this is not possible, or you are unable to attend an alternative date, we will refund the full purchase price.
 
Collection of work
 
We will email you when your work is ready to be picked up – this usually takes between 4-6 weeks. We keep work for 3 months after it has come out of the kiln, so please make sure that you collect it within this time frame. Unfortunately, we cannot post work to you.
